happy first day of may!
it’s the beginning of the month which means…it’s time for another ins and outs list!
here’s a summary of what i’m into (and not into) these days…
ins:
point dume: went here two weekends ago for the first time and holy shit…it is beautiful. i’ve lived in los angeles my whole life and it was the first time i’ve ever been and wow…i have been missing out. the flowers…the water…the rocks…i’ll definitely be coming back here. like...are you kidding me? mother nature is such a beautiful thing:
i forgot to include this photo in that post i attached above but just the color scheme/flowers/scenery of this all is sooooo gorgeous
orange roses: i recently wrote about coming across some orange roses in someone’s yard and how pretty they were…and to be honest i didn’t even know orange roses were an actual thing (until i saw them the other day) (maybe i’ve been living under a rock). sooooo gorgeous (more on this here)
bon iver’s new album: might be the best one yet. my favorite track on there is from because it makes me feel like i’m going on a summer road trip.
interactive pieces of jewelry: i found this game machine necklace (with a working game machine attached to it) walking around shimokitazawa in tokyo a month and a half ago (an area of tokyo known for their insane thrifting/vintage shopping) and it was a love at first sight moment. here’s a little video demonstration so you can see for yourself
in-person breathwork classes: i’m obsessed with doing breathwork…i got super into it last year and it’s been such a grounding addition to my morning routine. i do a little bit every morning, but i recently went to a breath + sound class at open meditation in venice (not italy lol) and it reminded me how comforting it can be to practice breathwork in a community setting with loads of other people eager to release unwanted energy (i also use the open meditation app all the time)
detele this later: delete this newsletter is a major in for may 2025. it’s one of the most entertaining newsletters i’ve read in a while. every essay is a mix of chaotic and just enough self-awareness to keep you slightly concerned. i recently read an essay about how she got invited to a networking brunch and pretended she was a former soap opera star in witness protection and it’s just like…what? how does one even think about doing some shit like this (no judgement just questions).
coffee: i’ve always been a tea person and have been vehemently against coffee for most of my life…but lately my taste buds have evolved and now i’m slowly shifting into a coffee person…i’m turning a new leaf.
a classic sunny day: listen…a classically sunny day is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted (which i tend to do because I’m from/live in los angeles) and i recently made a tiktok about this (and i know people are super anti-tiktok on here but let a girl live a little) because i was driving up the 101 a few days ago and was just thinking to myself “damn…this is a gorgeous day…” and also we’re in the thick of spring and everything so the weather is just…extra nice and beautiful and sunny
outs:
apps that ask me to rate my experience after literally everything: it’s annoying lol leave me alone and let me use [insert app name] in peace!
going to the rose bowl flea market at 5am: listen…i love a good flea market and will wake up early for one…but five in the morning? that is absurd. sleep in a little! it’s a sunday! ease into the morning! at least wake up to the sunrise! (if this is you…you are seriously on another level)
wearing all black all the time: my cousin gave me this cheetah print dress two months ago and I wore it out for the first time earlier this week…and i’m obsessed with the way this looks on me!:
over the past year i’ve been venturing into adding more color to my wardrobe (mainly a lot more browns/beiges/oranges) which…for the past three years…had only consisted of red, white, and black. historically…i have never been an animal print kind of person…but i’m absolutely in love with this. and for the first time in my life…i’m actually looking forward to wearing lots of color this spring and summer!
sea moss gel: disgusting. i know it’s good for you and people try to make it in different flavors and all…but in my opinion…no matter what you add…sea moss still tastes terrible. there are so many other ways to stay healthy that don’t involve eating something that looks like phlegm
finishing a bad movie: if you’re a third of the way into watching something and you’re not into it…why keep watching? time is precious!
thinking you need to monetize every hobby: there are way too many think pieces about the concept of not monetizing your hobbies…but it’s so true! i say this because i’ve been feeling quite stagnant lately and i’ve been looking for new hobbies i can take up to add some spice in my life (but more niche hobbies…like I’m thinking about taking up birdwatching at the moment)
i’ve been browsing this list by milk & cookies for new hobby ideas to take up (which has loads of great options):
asking chat gbt for dating advice: i guarantee that in 10 years from now 90% of therapists will be out of work because ai is going to replace them all…because when you really think about it…1. therapy is expensive 2. chatgpt is free and will give an unbiased opinion and 3. therapy costs are only going to keep rising…like i understand the intent behind people doing this but also it’s so cringe to think about…like the movie her in real life (watching that trailer back is terrifying bc literally that movie came out 12 years ago and it’s literally where we are now…
these are my ins and outs for may! cheers to the beginning of an amazing month!
